From new creative directors to extreme deconstructing and layering

Yesterday, Paris Fashion Week (PFW) came to a close, ending Fashion month. The shows that stood out to me were Comme Des Garcons, Schiaparelli and Givenchy. Today, we will be unpacking my favourite moments from these collections as well as the overall show. Grab your mugs and let’s get into it.

1. SCHIAPARELLI

THE SHOW & ACCESSORIES

Schiaparelli is innovation class and style. If you have not already seen this show in video, go and do so now. I love that they brought back the traditional catwalk style of elegance over speed. No more models running down the catwalk with guests catching just a glimpse. The models, strolled, posed, twirled…I would have loved to be in the room where that happened!

Also, I mentioned in another one of my blogs that belts are the accessory of this season and I think Schiaparelli agrees. There were so many looks that layered belts in such a dramatic way and I am so here for it. I did see some girlies on social media do this too, needless to say, I want some more belts!

2. COMME DES GARCONS

THE CREATIVITY AND EXECUTION

I have seen many outfits claiming to be a deconstructed version of a traditional garment. But this - this is art. It is not easy to make art wearable, since this is a ready to wear show. But Comme Des Garcon didn’t just think creatively to reimagine a traditional suit, they executed it to perfection. I really want to see this collection in person, feel it and try it on.

It plays with silhouettes through shape and sculpting with fabric. (It also kind of reminds me of the Inside out movie scene when they went through abstract thoughts.) I want to see this collection in an exhibition because it is a chef d’oeuvre!

3. GIVENCHY

THE CLOTHES

I was so sad to hear Sarah Burton leave Alexander McQueen because I loved her work there. But, she proved with this debut collection that she can take her talents anywhere she goes with this collection featuring the beauty in simplicity. This garment in particular was my favourite - it is just so fashion girly. I could wear this to fashion uni, as well as an interview as a fashion journalist. Pretty and functional. I would be very happy owning these pieces and wearing just these for the rest of the year on rotation.

I also thought the second dress (white with black ribbon) was familiar - then I remembered. Elle Fanning wore a custom full length version of this for the Oscars which you can find on my previous post.

These were my top 3 favourites from PFW, but there are so many more I could comment on. I noticed a rise in equestrian wear, so many collections had big fur coats and sheer tops seem to be a new trend that I don’t think I’ll be getting into. That’s the tea for now on fashion week!
