May we never loose our wonder

It’s really all about perspective

“Wonder” by Amanda Cook and Bethel music. This song has been playing in my mind rent free ever since I discovered it a couple weeks ago. The lyrics are simple and easy to learn, two verses that repeat. They ask that we never loose our wonder, that we remain like a child, being in awe of the beauty of God. The creative mind is a powerful, yet fragile thing. As a creative child of God, these lyrics mean so much more to me, so here are my thoughts.

Oooh oh
Fill us with wonder
May we never lose our wonder
May we never lose our wonder
Wide eyed and mystified
May we be just like a child
Staring at the beauty of our King

Cause You are beautiful in all your ways
You are beautiful in all your ways
You are beautiful in all your ways
You are beautiful in all your ways

Being a creative is a mentally, physically and emotionally taxing role. It’s not something you can do half way so that means sometimes you are giving yourself wholly and fully to your craft. What is important, is to not let it drain you, but instead refresh you. That is all to do with perspective.

Perspective: a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view
— Google

Perspective is how you tune your mind to see the good, to see the point of it all, amidst all the negative. The song says, “may we never loose our wonder” and that is because in life there are SO many reasons to loose hope. So many ways to give up and forget to see the beauty of it all. It’s easy to ignore the gift God has given us, our creative talents, when it all gets a little too hard. Instead of asking for all the hard to be taken away, why not ask for your wonder, your curiosity, to be guarded.

I wrote a blog post about ways to continue feeding your creative child and this is important to keep your wonder. If you remain in love, in awe of, obsessed with your art, the other things might start to feel a little smaller.
