LMBC: Let Me Be Creative
Introducing my final project for uni
Today marks officially one month until I will be handing in my official final project to uni, that sounds like a good time to reveal what my project is. I have been working on this project for a while now after the idea came to me last summer. I am sooooooooo excited about it and even more excited to share it with you all! Of course, I can’t share it all because I do have to hand this in as part of my submission at uni - I have no intention on plagiarising myself - but I can share some snippets here and there…
What it is:
LMBC is the acronym of my final project which stands for, “Let Me Be Creative”. It is the final project for my course at London College of Fashion where I study Fashion Journalism and Content Creation. This project will be a Youtube channel which hosts video podcasts centred around careers in creative industries. I will be chatting with a range of individuals from editors to students about their experience getting into and working in creative industries. The goal is to include behind the scenes roles that young creatives may not know about to widen participation in the creative careers.
Why I am starting it:
There are many key time stamps I could say that started this idea. I came up with the name last summer but initially thought of it being a magazine. However, as much as I love writing, I am definitely leaning more into my video content creation skills which is why it is now a Youtube channel.
Another key time stamp was my internship at Karla Otto last year - it opened up my eyes to so many more things I can do with my degree after graduation. Just because I study fashion journalism, doesn’t necessarily mean my only career options are within journalism. Unfortunately, that is not a revelation many have had and are instead left with degrees, or creative interests and no clue of how to turn it into a money making career. I want this channel to be a place where creatives at the beginning of their careers feel motivated, inspired and encouraged to pursue their interests. When one door closes, there are so many other ways to continue!
The more I work on this, the more I realise that it is something I have always been doing subconsciously. I grew up with many talented people, many friends in school who had creative gifts that were left unnurtured. We all know that one student who was insanely gifted in art class or textiles, but they ignored that talent because they didn’t see how that could be a real career as many parents would say. This channel will act as a reflective mirror, showing that creative interests don’t just have to be hobbies.
What you can expect:
It’s always easier saying something than actually believing it. This is why I think it is so important to hear from people who are actually doing it! Real people living in their dreams to let you know it is possible. I will be speaking to every type of creative under the sun (no one is safe 😂). For the sake of my uni assignment, this first set of videos will centre mostly around fashion focused jobs, but the information you will get is transferrable to any creative career you are interested in. The following videos once I graduate and continue this will be more broad and expand to the wider creative industries as well as touching on ways to be creative in your office job - creativity can be found everywhere and anywhere!
Some videos will be in depth sit downs where I discuss a specific topic, or I might invite a guest for a full length chat with them too. I’ll switch up the locations every once in a while, we can chat in a mall or uni all the same!
As of now, I can’t give an exact date that I will release this channel as it has to suit my uni work schedule. All I can say is, watch this space. The official instagram for this channel will be up and running soon, sharing teasers and snippets of what you can expect on the main channel…
How you can get involved:
This channel is for you! Every single person has a creative bone in their body, you just need to activate it to bring it back to life. Make sure to engage with the content, let me know what you’re loving and any suggestions you may have. Also, if you know of any young creative that you feel may be great to be featured on the LMBC show, be sure to let me know.
I will start sharing more content about it from time to time on socials, so make sure you are following to keep up to date with its progression from concept to final product. That’s the hot tea spilled for today - this one has been brewing for a while and the lids finally off! Make sure to subscribe to this blog below for updates on new blog posts daily!
